Song #2 Under Way!

So the last couple of weeks have been pretty exciting. I've started production on the second song of the album which will be called Falling Through. The drums and bass have both been recorded and approved and I'm pumped to hear the guitars! If all goes well, those should be finished during the first week into the new year. I'm hoping to have the song completely done and available sometime around the end of January. Onward and upward!

Welcome!

Hey all!

Welcome to the new blog! So the year is 2010, and I STILL haven't tried blogging so I thought I should try and give it a shot before I start saying things like 'Those dang kids' or 'Hey you! Get off my lawn!'.
There's still some editing I'd like to do to the site so you may see some adjustments from time to time, at least until I get the hang of this thing :) So on to the first post!

I guess I can say after all the years I've been a musician that I've finally decided to stop messing around and record myself an album. I've been involved in music for as far back as I can remember, playing in high school bands, local rock bands and touring bands (I'll share some of THOSE stories with you one day) and I realized that I've never actually sat down to seriously record songs that I've written. Oh, I've messed around with Pro Tools and midi and all that, but not having any formal training in mixing or sound design engineering or any of that, I knew that there was no way I would be able to pull off a decent sounding recording within the confines of my own basement studio. So I thought 'what the hell!' and went all out and hired some seriously talented people to help me make the album I knew I wanted. It sure ain't cheap, but man am I ever impressed with the results so far! The guys on the songs are all professional session/touring musicians from L.A. who have worked with some pretty big names, and the Engineer has been nominated for a Grammy SEVEN TIMES!! It's hard to believe this kind of massive talent is playing on my little 'ol songs but playing they are, and doing a fantastic job.
I've finished all the pre-production on the songs and one has been fully recorded, mixed and mastered and been released on itunes, amazon and most online mp3 retailers. The song is called 'Breathe' and you can hear it by clicking on the 'play' button on the window to the left.
All of the instrumentation was done down in L.A. and I recorded the vocal track here in Toronto.I was totally impressed with how the finished song came out. These guys really know what they're doing.
So we've now begun official recording of song number 2 entitled 'Fallen Through'. It's a pretty catchy tune and the producer mentioned that she could easily imagine this tune on the radio, so I'm pretty excited to hear what they do with it. Incase you're wondering, they don't get carte blanche to do whatever they want. Each instrument that's recorded is reviewed, discussed then approved by me. Although so far my revisions have been minimal 'cause like I said, these guys are pros.

So thanks for having a look at the blog. Any suggestions or comments are welcome, and I look forward to hearing any feedback anyone has on the first song! In the meantime here's some photo's from the recent photo shoot I did. A big thanks goes out to both Stacey Estabrooks and Matt Cassan for doing such an amazing job on the makeup and the photography!

Cheers!
